This fabulous handspun yarn is soft and shiny – it knits up as a bulky yarn; it’s great for hats, shawls, scarves, and bags, jumpers & cardigans.
The yarn is the by product of the colourful saris that women wear in India. It is the loose ends of saris collected from Industrial mills in India that is handspun into yarn by women’s co-operatives in south India and the Himalyayas, spinning and knitting the yarn enables the women to earn much needed income from their cottage industry. Because it is handspun each hank is unique, the vibrant colour and unique texture of these silk fibers and yarns are an inspiration to knitters, designers and artisans. The yarn is suitable for knitting, crocheting, decorative tassels, patchwork, and other needle applications, as well as being particularly suitable for handweaving.
Yardage: Since the yarn is hand spun, the yardage varies from skein per skein, and the thickness and amount of twist in particular skein make difference in the total yardage, however approximately 70-75 yards per 100gm skein.
